1. Download the installer
Choose one of the available download mirrors on this site. Save the installer somewhere easy to find, such as your Downloads folder.
2. Check the file before opening it
Scan downloaded executable files with current security software before running them. If a browser or security product reports an unexpected warning, stop and verify the file rather than bypassing the warning automatically.
3. Run setup
Open the installer, select an installation folder and complete setup. Avoid installing into a location where your Windows account cannot write game configuration or downloaded map files.
4. Configure the game
On first launch, set your resolution, renderer, audio volume, mouse sensitivity and key bindings. A stable frame rate and comfortable sensitivity matter more than visual effects in classic Counter-Strike.
5. Connect to multiplayer
Open the server browser, refresh the list and choose a compatible Counter-Strike 1.6 server. You can also connect to a known server address through the game console if the server provides one.
